TOYOTA FINDS SOLID-STATE BATTERY BREAKTHROUGH?

Please make this real, Toyota.
Hold onto your seats, folks, because Toyota is revving up its solid-state battery development with a promise of electric vehicles that can go the distance. They've had a technological breakthrough in durability, and now they're aiming to produce EVs with a mind-boggling range of over 930 miles. Buckle up for the future!
Solid-state batteries are the new hotness. They use a solid electrolyte instead of a liquid one, like those boring lithium-ion batteries we have now. The result? A higher energy density that could catapult EV range into another stratosphere. Say goodbye to range anxiety and hello to road trips without pesky charging stops.
These solid-state batteries could give EVs longer ranges without the burden of added weight or size. It's like getting a bonus without any downsides. Manufacturers can go wild and create electric lightweight sports cars that'll make you feel like you're flying on the road.
Toyota teased us with some hints about the possibilities of this technology back in 2021 when they revealed a slew of electric concept cars. Picture this: a low-slung, GR-branded two-seater that pays homage to the classic Toyota MR2. Exciting stuff, right? They're also planning to use solid-state batteries in the electric successor to the Lexus LFA. And to make it even more thrilling, they're throwing in a manual gearbox. Who said EVs can't be engaging?
According to Toyota's recent strategy update, they're working on a mass-production method for these solid-state cells. They're eyeing a launch window between 2027 and 2028. When these babies hit the market, they're expected to improve driving range by a whopping 20% compared to Toyota's next-gen lithium-ion batteries. We're talking about approximately 745 miles of pure electric power. And they claim you can charge the solid-state pack from 10% to 80% in less than 10 minutes. That's speedy charging, my friends.
But Toyota isn't the only one in the solid-state battery race. Nissan wants in on the action too. They're aiming to bring the technology to market by 2028, along with promises of cost reduction, doubled energy density, and tripled charging speed. BMW is also hopping on the bandwagon with a deal to produce solid-state cells and hopes to show them off in a car within the next 18 months.
Now, solid-state batteries have been one of those things perpetually "10 years away." But hey, maybe this time it's for real. We'll just have to wait and see if these promises materialize or if they'll join the long list of lofty aspirations that never quite make it to the road. EV enthusiasts, get your popcorn ready, because the race for solid-state supremacy is on!

TESLAāS TRIUMPH: NEW REGISTRATIONS SURGE 52% YOY

The Worldās Best Selling Car: Model Y
Tesla is back! According to Experian, they've experienced a whopping 52% surge in new registrations during the first four months of 2023. It's like a resurrection of sales momentum, thanks to some generous price cuts. Oh, Elon Musk, the gift that keeps on giving.
Musk, in his infinite wisdom, decided to sacrifice profits in favor of boosting sales volume. And guess what? It's actually working! He set a target of 50% annual global sales growth for Tesla, and it seems like they're well on their way to achieving it. Way to go Papa Musk.
Let's dive into the numbers, shall we? The Model Y crossover is leading the charge with an incredible 99% increase in new registrations. The Model 3 sedan is also holding its own with a respectable 28% growth. However, the poor Model S sedan suffered a decline of 67%. Ouch. And let's not forget the Model X crossover, which experienced a modest 15% rise.
In the battle for electric vehicle market dominance in the US, Tesla is clearly the reigning champion. Their registrations through April reached a staggering 211,842, capturing a commanding 60.8% share of the market. Talk about flexing your electric muscles! They even managed to edge up from their 60.3% share in the first quarter. āCompetitionās coming.ā Well, whereās it at?
Now, let's talk about how Tesla managed to achieve such success. It seems the federal tax credit played a significant role. With a potential discount of up to $7,500, Tesla buyers flocked to take advantage of the incentive. Oh, the sweet taste of a discounted Model Y. Combined with those enticing price cuts, lucky buyers could snag themselves a $25,000 discount compared to last year. It's a bargain you can't resist, as long as you meet the eligibility requirements, of course.
And let's not forget Tesla's dominance in the luxury vehicle sector. Their new registrations of 211,842 left competitors like BMW and Lexus in the dust. It's like they're playing in a league of their own, leaving the traditional luxury brands in the rearview mirror.
In conclusion, Tesla is crushing it in every sector they touch. From expanding their Supercharger network to battery production and even lithium refining, they're thriving like no other. Their strategic initiatives have paid off, and the surge in new registrations is just another testament to Tesla's invincible position in the electric vehicle market. Bow down to the king of electric cars, my friends. Bow down.

NIOāS ROLLERCOASTER RIDE: LOSSES & PRICE CUTS

No battery swaps hereā¦
Oh, Nio, Nio, Nio, what a quarter you've had! It seems like their net loss is spreading faster than a wildfire in dry grass. They managed to widen their net loss to a whopping 4.74 billion yuan (~665 million USD)! That's a jaw-dropping increase from their already impressive loss of 1.78 billion yuan (~250 million USD) last year. Bravo, Nio, bravo!
Their gross margin took a nosedive, plummeting to a pitiful 1.5%. Talk about going from bad to worse. It's like they're playing limbo with their own profitability, and they keep setting the bar lower and lower.
And their deliveries? They dropped like a lead balloon, going from an average of 10,000 in the first quarter to a measly 6,000 last month. Meanwhile, Tesla is out there breaking records in China, averaging over 1,300 deliveries per day. Looks like Nio might need to take a few lessons from the big electric vehicle boss.
But fear not, dear Nio enthusiasts (Is there any left? Send us an email and tell us why!), because the company is here with a solution! They've decided to embark on a bold strategy of price cuts. Ta-da! Yes, they're slashing prices by a generous 30,000 yuan (~4000 USD). Because nothing screams success like reducing your profit margins even further, right? It's like a clearance sale where the only thing they're clearing is their chances of making money.
Alsoā¦ remember those beloved free battery swaps Nio used to offer? Well, say goodbye to that little perk. They've decided to end the generosity and make customers pay for their battery swaps. That's right, Nio is joining the "price war" party in China. It's like they're trying to win an award for how quickly they can turn their customers' smiles into frowns.
Oh, one more thing! New buyers won't even get the luxury of enjoying any free battery swaps. Nio is officially tightening its belt and leaving its customers to foot the bill.
So there you have it, folks. Nio's Q1 was a spectacular display of financial gymnastics. They managed to lose more money, decrease their margins, and disappoint their customers all in one fell swoop. Truly a masterclass in how to make a bad situation even worse. Bravo, Nio, bravo!

LOTUS EVIJA X TARGETS NURBURGRING EV TRACK RECORD

Holy s**t
Lotus is gearing up for a wild ride at the NĆ¼rburgring with an outrageous version of its Evija hypercar. This beastly prototype, developed in collaboration with race engineering firm Multimatic, is a track-ready monster built with one goal in mind: to tear up the track faster than anyone else.
Although Lotus hasn't officially confirmed its intentions to dethrone the Volkswagen ID R's lap record of 6 minutes and 5.336 seconds, all signs point in that direction. The track was booked exclusively for this prototype run, and the conditions were supposedly perfect for some serious practice.
If you need any proof of this prototype's audacious ambitions, just take a gander at that massive swan-neck spoiler protruding from its rear. It's like something out of a sci-fi movie or an over-the-top attempt to conquer Pikes Peak. Lotus clearly means business.
According to a statement from Lotus, the Evija X is an all-new technology concept that pushes the boundaries of what's possible with the Evija hypercar. They've been testing it on various race tracks around the world, and they've made significant progress. So they're definitely up to something exciting.
When it comes to modifications, the Evija X is equipped with carbon fiber side skirts to boost downforce, a massive front splitter, and canards for some extra aerodynamic oomph. These tweaks aim to keep the Evija planted firmly on the 12.9-mile NĆ¼rburgring lap. Defying physics like a boss.
This track-focused beast is expected to pack even more power than the already potent standard Evija, which boasts a mind-boggling 1972bhp. They've probably performed some magical weight reduction tricks too, shedding some of the road car's 1700kg heft.
So buckle up and get ready for Lotus's thrilling escapade at the NĆ¼rburgring. The Evija X is coming to dominate the competition and set the track ablaze with its electrifying performance. Lotus is raising the bar, pushing boundaries, and reminding us why they've always been a force to be reckoned with in the automotive world. It's going to be one hell of a ride.
